Happy Thanksgiving to all! I hope you spent part of today counting your blessings... Unfortunately, my fantasy football team isn't helping me out too much in that regard. So it's a good thing that I am blessed so fully in every other aspect of life!
We made a wonderful Crabbe feast: Smoked turkey; green beans with onion and bacon; real mashed potatoes, with enough garlic to light up Napoli; stuffing with Emilyn's famous hand-cut mushrooms; and Mommy's newly famous bread pudding a la mode with spiced vanilla sauce! Whew! That's a good meal.

The birdies came to our feeders for their own Thanksgiving feast. We counted a dozen goldfinches (hard to spot in the winter when they're not gold) and a nice downy or hairy woodpecker... After dessert, we headed out to another Christmas light display. To see more, click here.

Things we need to remember next year:
1. You can never start the turkey too early.
2. There is such a thing as too much garlic in the mashed potatoes.
3. Emilyn should always cut up mushrooms for the stuffing.
4. Free Shop 'n Save bread makes EXCELLENT bread pudding.
5. Buy vanilla ice cream ahead of time, so Daddy doesn't have to run to Walgreens.
6. Buy SMOKED bacon for the green beans.
7. Make sure there's more than one onion in the house.
well i did start my turkey too early, i was ahead of myself by an hour.
We've learned after, like, 10 tries that the turkey never gets fully cooked in the smoker. So it always has to go in the oven eventually. So it can't possibly get overcooked in the smoker. We think.
onions, not shallots in the saurkraut
REAL bacon? Seriously, the feast sounds like the prep time was as much fun as the actual eating time. You guys do it right! Oh, the bread pudding with spiced vanilla sauce...now, that sounds excellent! An old family recipe?
Internet recipe. And free bread, from the opening of our new Shop 'n Save. I guess it's a tradition in the making.
