What the heck is a blixtrande?

Allen's current, and apparently lasting, obsession is the Swedish Viking folk metal band Månegarm. In Norse mythology, Månegarm is a wolf that lives on the blood of dying humans and at Ragnarök hunts down and swallows the moon. Ummm, yeah.

But it's not as bad as it sounds. They have an album that Daddy downloaded that is very gentle folk music, complete with fiddles and a haunting female vocal line. And these are the songs Allen likes. And sings. In Swedish. Incessantly!

His favorite song is "Himmelsfursten," or Lord of Thunder. The lyrics are kinda disturbing, when translated!

A fulminating light across the vault of the sky
Time of storm, time of autumn
A resounding display of heaven prevailing in the high
Time of mischief, time of darkness

The wheels of the carriage revolve on
Through a flashing sea
From above he looks down
The Lord of Thunder... Asa-Thor

And so on! Daddy just got Allen a book of Norse mythology from Amazon, so we're learning more about Thor... We've told Allen that he'd make a very excellent viking for Halloween... but he says he'd prefer to use his vampire costume again.

Here's Allen singing in Swedish on the way home from the beach (he is getting very good at rolling his R's!):

And, if you'd like, you can hear the whole song:

We just thought it was important to document this current obsession! It's kind of something that someday no one will remember -- or believe!
